Dr. Balderas Named Best Cardiologist

Harlingen, TX — South Heart Clinic proudly announces that Dr. Balderas has been voted Best Cardiologist in the Valley Morning Star’s 2025 Reader’s Choice Awards, an honor he has now received four out of the last six years.
A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Balderas has dedicated his career to advancing heart care in the region. After earning his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in 2011, he returned home to complete his internal medicine residency at UTHSCSA-RAHC, where he was recognized as Outstanding Intern of the Year, Outstanding Resident of the Year, and awarded the prestigious Kleberg Foundation research grant.
He went on to complete his cardiology fellowship at UTHSCSA under the direction of Dr. John Erikson, where he was named Outstanding Fellow of the Year and later served as Chief Fellow. Dr. Balderas then pursued advanced training in Interventional Cardiology under the leadership of Dr. Steven Bailey.
Today, Dr. Balderas is highly regarded for his expertise in general and interventional cardiology, including coronary and peripheral interventions, as well as structural heart procedures such as TAVR and closure of ASDs, PFOs, and VSDs.
